Miss Universe 3rd Runner-Up 2011: Shamcey

I woke up early in the morning just to watch the coronation event of Miss Universe 2011. And my effort in waking up early is paid off because the event was really successful if I may say. I knew that many Filipino people were really excited and hoping for shamcey’s triumph and so do I. I am praying that she could really make it.

When her name was called at the Top 16, I’m very excited because I knew that she could really make it up to Top 10. I was really tense when her name was called in Top 10 and I was right, even in Top 5 she was called also. Her innate Filipina beauty is really bedazing and it makes me proud as a Filipina also. I was stunned also with Miss Angola because she really has a beautiful smile and with her aura I can sense that she has a good heart. On the other hand, Miss Angola deserves the crown as well because she did her best also to make her countrymen be proud of her.

When it’s time for Q & A portion, everybody was really tense; though I don’t have any worries with Shamcey’s answer because I knew that she could make it. And it turns out ok for me when it’s her turn to answer because I think there’s nothing wrong with it, she just based it with her own views and conviction.  And that’s what the women would stand for nowadays, to be able to build their own principles especially for their rights as a woman.
Shamcey is indeed a good example for a strong woman: with her own faith, principles and firmness. The one thing or word that I would want to hear from shamcey’s answer is the word RESPECT. I was actually waiting for that word to come out in her mouth as she answered Fox’s question, but I never heard it.  I would love if she phrased her response as “if that person loves me, he should be open-minded about my religion and he should also respect my beliefs.” We may not agree with her but she’s being true to herself. And as I observed Shamcey was in a hurry to answer her question as if she would want to finished it in that moment. Perhaps she got nervous during that time but it seemed that she still wore a confidence in her face.

Maybe to some Filipino people it was a great answer, but in my standpoint the judges were not really contented with her answer or perhaps she was misinterpreted by others although she didn’t use any interpreter and yet she’s the one being misinterpreted. Let us be aware also that around the globe, there are many different cultures, religions, beliefs, ethnicity, notions, civilizations and many more. And talking about religion spurs disagreements and divisiveness because every person has their own beliefs and convictions.  And maybe the judges didn’t believe that her answer is applicable worldwide. Some says also that it was politics why Shamcey didn’t win. However, Shamcey’s given question was really tough amongst the five questions given to other contenders. But for me no matter what the reasons behind why she’s not being chosen to be crowned as Miss Universe, still it’s a competition, and every competition there is a contest with rules to determine a winner and in that contest you have to contend to one another. There will be a winner and a loser as they say. We’ll that is right, but even if she didn’t win for that title, but for many Filipino’s she’s the winner in their hearts and Filipino knew that she really did her best and really makes us proud. We have to move on guys and look forward with positivity.
