Proud Philippine Dragon Boat Athletes

When I heard about the story line of these athletes in one of the TV network here in the Philippines, I felt bad for them and pitied them as well because the government is not supporting them. Allowances are not provided in their trainings and some of their expenses as well which resulted to almost failing not to make for the world championship due to lack of funds. Bayanihan spirit came alive during the competition days, Private sectors made a bayanihan help for the team in a way of sponsoring their airline tickets to Tampa Bay and Fil-Am meanwhile give them food and water while they were competing in the game.  But I knew in their heart the passion that they really wanted to fight and win for the gold medals representing the Philippines in their incoming world cup championship game in the United States. But this team is not actually part of the national team, some rumours behind is that they are victims of politics that’s why this happens.

According to the PSC, the government will not give rewards to the members of dragon boat team; although they won 5 gold and 2 silver medals because these paddlers are not considered as national athletes by National Sports Association and the Philippine Olympic Committee. It is really unfortunate and so sad to hear that our Athletes performing wondrously and superbly despite the fact that the government lack support on them. They are giving the nation honour and pride, and for humanity I think it is right to recognize them for what they did to our country. I think it’s about time that the government should look into this and support our athletes all the way, and give appreciation for their effort, time and their passion in bringing hope and recognition to us.
